Review of the Big Chocolate Show, NYC

I love chocolate; I mean capitol L love chocolate. I've been on the lookout for a chocolate conference like the one I stumbled across a few years ago. I especially love speaking with artists who make their own chocolate and trying out new brands that I've never heard of. I've been a little tentative though since my last outing was such a spectacular failure. But, when I heard about "The Big Chocolate Show" through a chocolate blog I read (Chocolate Noise, check it out) I thought I would gi...

Frosted Chocolate Sugar Cookies

The end of the school year is here! I like to thank people with cookies rather than cards (this should totally be a thing) so I made my daughters' teachers cookies as a thank you for a great year. I had an apple cookie cutter (ya know, apple for teacher) that I thought was cute. I knew I wanted to frost them so that could be red - my daughter's favorite color - and I also wanted something I could roll out. There would be some leftover too so I wanted something my girls would eat. It's ...

12" by 18" chocolate sheet cake or Lory's cake part 3

So at long last, here we are at the third part of the series that is Lory's cake. Oh what's that, maybe I didn't mention that this was a three part series? My bad. Well it is and it's time to talk about the cake! A really, really big cake, a cake that feeds a crowd with a couple of pieces to spare, a cake with a capital C CAKE!. Let me back up a bit - this story actually begins a year ago Christmas. I know, but bear with me. My Mom took me shopping for my gift – a s...

Review of the Chocolate Expo 2016 at the Cradle of Aviation Museum, NY

I was so excited for this event. I love chocolate; no, that's not strong enough, I adore chocolate. It is an essential part of my life. Chocolate, wine - I'm good. So when I saw the signs go up for a whole expo on chocolate and right in my back yard, I bought tickets right away. I have been to one expo before - a few years ago in Manhattan - and it was so cool. Chocolate everywhere; makers, creators, even a sculpture of Times Square made entirely out of chocolate. I was in love and I wanted to r...

Chocolate Fudge cake with Honey Mascarpone Frosting and Chocolate Ganache

My husband's birthday was last week and even though we went away for vacation to celebrate - I was determined to still make him a cake. I'm pretty serious about birthdays and I make it a goal of mine to always make a cake for whomever I can to celebrate. First 'cause, well, cake. I don't need very much of a reason to eat cake. Second, I'll take any excuse to celebrate and for me, that usually involves food. I especially love good cake. I say good cake because bad cake is almost not wo...

Double Chocolate Custard Cups

This one was just too good, I had to share.  My daughter loves to bake with me. If she gets to crack an egg or stir something she wants to be a part of it, especially if she also gets to taste. So when she suggested that we make something the other day, something chocolate, I was all for it. She said the magic word, after all, chocolate. There are days when chocolate is required and this was one of those days. I had been dreaming about this chocolate cream pie I made a little while back fo...
